Halloween is a festival of the dead — or, at least it started out that way — and Halloween 2009 will emphasize that in a big way with the anticipated top costumes honoring the recently deceased. We’ve cruised the hot venues for costuming online and here are what we see as the hottest costuming trends for Halloween 2009:
1. Michael Jackson — Whether in Thriller motif or not it will be hip to dress as the Gloved One. Let’s just try to refrain from too much, um, crotch grabbing, kids.
2. Farrah Fawcett — her locks live on, at least for a night.
3. Anything 1980s — Devo, Madonna, and Transformers will be in this year.
4. Star Trek — right on the heels of the summer blockbuster are plenty of Trek-inspired uniforms.
5. Obama — the presidential look is always in style.
6. Wolverine — if you don’t have the muscles for this most costumes carry a little extra padding.
7. Harry Potter — he’s not the Halloween powerhouse he once was but he’s still a timely look.
8. GI Joe — and not your Daddy’s version, either. Joe’s got a new movie and shows lots of new toys.
9. Power Rangers — non-gender specific is the order of the day with these throwbacks
10. Pick-a-Princess — Ariel, Belle, Jasmine, etc. Same chick, different doo. Always a staple for the little girls and big girls alike.
